A clinic built around children, close to Worksop

Our Everton clinic is a quiet, purpose-built space with the specialist equipment we cannot always bring to a home visit. It is calm enough for children who find new places difficult, and set up so that assessment feels like play, not an examination. You will see the same therapist each time, your goals come first, and there is never pressure to commit to anything on the day. Take a look at the clinic.

Where we see children from Worksop

Three options, and the right one depends on the child rather than on convenience.

Our Everton clinic

Equipment, space and a setting built for children. Best for assessment and anything needing kit.

At home

Useful for babies, for children who find new places difficult, and for work that has to fit a real daily routine.

Nursery or school

Where the difficulty shows up in PE or moving round the building, seeing it there is worth more than seeing it in a clinic.

Why we cover Worksop

Worksop sits in Bassetlaw, which puts it in an awkward spot: the NHS children’s therapy service covering it is based on North Road in Retford, so families here are already travelling for appointments. Our Everton clinic is a comparable trip in the other direction, and for a lot of Worksop families it is a shorter one.

We also cover Worksop because we can be consistent there. Continuity matters more in children’s therapy than most people expect — progress comes from the same therapist knowing a child, seeing how they move on a bad day as well as a good one, and adjusting a programme as they grow. That is easier to deliver in towns we work in regularly than in one-off visits.

Your physiotherapist in Worksop

You will see the same physiotherapist throughout, not a different person each visit. Continuity matters more in children’s therapy than most people expect — progress comes from someone knowing how your child moves on a bad day as well as a good one. Meet the team.

Fees

We publish what an assessment and follow-up sessions cost, so you can decide before you book rather than after. Fees and what to expect.

Case managers, solicitors and professional referrers

PT Kids has provided specialist paediatric physiotherapy and occupational therapy since 2014, with HCPC-registered therapists working across clinic, home and school. We take instruction for assessment, goal-led rehabilitation programmes and reporting for children with complex and neurological needs in Worksop and the surrounding area.

SEND support in Nottinghamshire

If your child has additional needs, Nottinghamshire County Council publishes the SEND Local Offer, setting out support available locally across health, education and social care. It is the starting point for anything involving an EHC plan, and it runs alongside — rather than instead of — private therapy.

How PT Kids fits alongside the NHS

Many of the families we see are also under an NHS team, and that works well: private physiotherapy runs alongside NHS care, not instead of it, and we are glad to share our findings with your child’s NHS therapist, consultant or school with your consent. If you would like the detail of how the local NHS service and referral route work, it is set out below.

The NHS children’s physiotherapy route for Worksop families

Who provides children’s physiotherapy on the NHS in Worksop

This is the question most Worksop parents need answered first, and it is worth being precise about, because Bassetlaw sits across a boundary that confuses people.

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust runs the children’s physiotherapy service covering Bassetlaw, which includes Worksop. It sees children aged 0–16, and up to 19 in some circumstances, with musculoskeletal or neurological conditions — at hospital clinics, community clinics, and in schools, nurseries and at home.

Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust provides children’s physiotherapy and occupational therapy across the wider county, focused on neurological, neuromuscular and neurodevelopmental conditions, for ages 0–18.

The Bassetlaw children’s therapy centre and child development team are based on North Road in Retford. In practice that means a Worksop family referred for NHS therapy is usually travelling to Retford rather than being seen in Worksop itself.

Using both is normal. Coming to us does not remove your child from an NHS waiting list. Plenty of Worksop families stay on the list and start work with us in the meantime.

What we can do that the NHS service is not set up to do

This is not a criticism of the NHS team. Doncaster and Bassetlaw’s children’s physiotherapy service does good work with a fixed budget and a duty to prioritise the children with the greatest clinical need. We work alongside them, and we take referrals from case managers and health professionals as well as from parents directly.

The differences are structural rather than a matter of quality.

No referral needed

You can contact us yourself. The NHS service generally needs a referral from a GP, hospital doctor, school, nursery or another health professional.

No clinical threshold

NHS services have to prioritise. If your child has been told they do not meet the criteria, that is a resource judgement, not a statement that nothing would help.

You choose the setting

Clinic, home, nursery or school — whichever suits your child, rather than whichever the service can offer.

It runs alongside, not instead

Starting with us does not remove your child from an NHS waiting list. Many Worksop families do both.

Waiting, and what you can do meanwhile

Waiting for an NHS assessment does not stop you doing anything useful. Write down what you are seeing and when it happens, film a short clip of the movement that concerns you, and note what nursery or school has observed.

That record helps whoever eventually assesses your child, NHS or private, and it is far more accurate than trying to recall it months later in a ten-minute appointment.

Local FAQs for Worksop

Do you have a clinic in Worksop?

Our clinic is at 2 Wesleyan Court, Everton, a short drive from Worksop. We also see Worksop children at home, at nursery and at school.

Which NHS trust covers children’s physiotherapy in Worksop?

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust covers Bassetlaw, including Worksop, for children aged 0–16 and up to 19 in some cases. Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust covers the wider county for neurological and neurodevelopmental conditions.

Can I refer my own child?

To us, yes — contact us directly, no GP referral needed. For the NHS service, referral generally has to come from a GP, hospital doctor, school, nursery or another health professional.

Will seeing you privately affect our NHS referral?

No. Being seen privately does not remove your child from an NHS waiting list, and many families use both.

Do you see teenagers with sports injuries?

Yes. Musculoskeletal and sports injuries in older children and teenagers are a significant part of what we do.

Worried about your child’s movement?

Tell us what you are seeing. We will tell you honestly whether it needs therapy.
