Cameron’s Story

Long-term, specialist paediatric therapy — and what it makes possible when a child has the right team, the right goals and enough time.

“We just want him to walk.”

In 2015, a case manager referred an 8-year-old boy to PT Kids. He had sustained a diffuse brain injury in a road traffic accident two years earlier — hoisted for every transfer, unable to walk, with his left side largely non-functional, and a BMI of 30. A plateau had been reported. His family had one goal.

Ten years on, this is what consistent, goal-led, MDT-coordinated paediatric rehabilitation can look like over time — from hoisted transfers in 2015 to walking with one crutch and 4–6 independent steps by 2021, alongside independent washing and feeding and a BMI reduced from 30 to 22. He did not plateau. He needed the right team, the right goals, and enough time. Read the full story below.
