Dorota Hornik

Specialist Children’s Physiotherapist

Dorota Hornik qualified as a Physiotherapist in 2011 with an MSc Diploma in Physiotherapy from the University of Physical Education in Wroclaw, Poland.

During her training as a Physiotherapist, Dorota gained a degree in teaching swimming for disabled and worked with the disabled swimming team. She also provided private swimming lessons to children and adults with additional needs.
Dorota Hornik completed her master’s degree dissertation with a group of people carrying out regular exercises in the water, studying the impact of those exercises on their quality of life and comparing it to a similar group of people who would not engage in regular physical activities.

After graduation, Dorota worked for Children’s Charity with children aged 0-19 with a vast array of different conditions including: Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, Muscular Dystrophy, Down’s Syndrome, Development Delay and other Chromosomal Abnormalities. She assisted in conductive education sessions as well as provided physiotherapy and hydrotherapy sessions for those children. She has been involved in a number of school holiday gross and fine motor skills camps and intensive land and water based blocks of treatment.

Dorota Hornik has been working for the NHS as a Paediatric Physiotherapist for the last 6 years and she has gained a lot of experience in working with children and their families. She’s also been a part of a large multidisciplinary team working closely with a range of professionals including: Paediatricians, Orthopaedic Consultants, Neuromuscular consultants, Pain management team, Inclusion School Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists and Orthotists.

Over the years working as a Physiotherapist, Dorota has developed a special interest in working with children with Neuromuscular conditions and she’s joined the Neuromuscular Network Team for the region.

Dorota uses her energy and positive approach in order to highlight children’s abilities while working towards individual, patient centred goals. She believes that with a systematic and holistic approach, children can achieve their full potential. She always strives to do her best for the families she works with and will try to make physiotherapy fun and motivating for the little ones.
