What was the challenge?
The little boy I was working with could not tolerate brushing his teeth and it was making his evening routine really stressful and impacting on his sleep as well as his families sleep.
What was the change?
- Using visual aids to prepare him for toothbrushing so he knew what to expect.
- Using a visual representation of time, such as a tooth brushing song or the sand timer.
This helped to understand that tooth brushing will come to an end and provide some positive distraction whilst his teeth are being brushed!- Using a reward chart to motivate him to complete the activity.
- Using non flavoured tooth paste to help his sensory needs.
What was the impact?
His mum contacted me to tell me that this advice had changed his life and their life as a family.
