Bernadette qualified as a Physiotherapist in 2011, gaining a First from Sheffield Hallam University. She then went on to complete a Masters in Physiotherapy at The University of Nottingham in 2015, focussing on the rehabilitation of clients with neurological conditions. Passionate about supporting children, Bernadette began working as a paediatric community therapist immediately after qualifying. In her current role she works with children from 0-19 with a range of different conditions including Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, genetic conditions, chromosomal anomalies and neuromuscular conditions. She has also supported the pre- and post-operative therapy of children who have had Selective Dorsal Rhisotomy (SDR).
Bernadette is focussed on making therapy fun, and enjoys working with children and families to gain an understanding of their goals and aspirations, to ensure they get the best out of therapy.
Bernadette regularly works alongside paediatricians, orthopaedic consultants, orthotists and the wider multi-disciplinary team to ensure care is patient centred. She delivers care in a range of different setting including specialist nurseries, schools, clinics, mainstream schools and patient’s homes. She is experienced at advising on specialist equipment and providing advice and support on postural management for more complex clients.
Bernadette is committed to broadening her knowledge and skills to deliver the best care for families and has attended numerous curses including the Bobath introductory course, Advanced Neurodevelopmental Treatment (NDT), Bobath for hemiplegia and Gait Analysis.
