Specialist Children’s Occupational Therapist
Jen qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 2015 from the University of Liverpool. Having had the opportunity to rotate between settings as a band 5, Jen focused on developing her skills within the speciality of Neurology. It provided Jen with a great platform as she now uses these skills working with children.
Jen started working with children in 2016, and knew that was where she wanted to stay! At the end of 2017 she was promoted to a band 6 Paediatric Occupational Therapist working across the community, and in an acute setting.
Jen’s passion is working with children who have sensory processing difficulties and providing strategies to help manage these in day to day life, enabling these children to achieve their potential. She has completed the Sensory Integration Module 1, which further fuelled her interest in this area. She particularly enjoys educating families and schools about sensory processing difficulties, how this impacts children, and, most importantly how to help!
Jen delivers specialised Occupational Therapy services within a Children’s Therapy Service utilising in-depth theoretical and technical skills. She independently manages a very varied caseload of patients. She ensures her practice is evidence based, with client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions in order to minimise disability and maximise independence for independent living. Jen also provides occupational therapy to respite centres, adding to moving and handling plans and providing advice to improve functional independence for children with complex needs.
Jen is confident working in fast-paced environments and has developed invaluable experience of working under highly pressurised and challenging environments, which requires constant flexibility. She is a confident, driven and hard-working individual who is always keen to continue broadening her experience within occupational therapy.
