Specialist Children’s Physiotherapist

Daniel is the founder of PT Kids and has a dynamic, goal-orientated approach to his therapy. Daniel qualified in 2009 with a BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy degree from York St John University. From there on, he knew he wanted to pursue a career working with children and young people and went straight into the speciality; he now has over 7 years of experience.

Daniel has worked for a number of NHS trusts across the Midlands, North Lincolnshire and Yorkshire including 3 and a half years working at Sheffield Children’s Hospital. Whilst there, Daniel worked with the community team as a Specialist Physiotherapist, as well as being the Advanced Physiotherapist for children with neuromuscular conditions. He worked closely with consultants in the clinic providing detailed assessments and advice on physiotherapy management. As part of this role Daniel was a primary investigator for a national feasibility study into the effects of hydrotherapy on boys with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

Daniel has worked with children between the ages of 0-19 and understands the key aspects of child development at each stage. His clients range from children with profound and multiple difficulties to young athletes.

Daniel has excellent experience working with children with neurological conditions including cerebral palsy, brain injuries and spinal injuries. Not only has he completed introductory Bobath Training, he has also done Neurodevelopmental Therapy training with renowned physiotherapist Lois Bly. Daniel has gained significant experience assessing and treating children who have undergone Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) surgery and has worked with more than 14 children pre- and post-SDR. He’s attended a study day with NHS Bristol, one of the UK’s SDR providers, to ensure he maintains excellent skills for providing the intensive post-operative physiotherapy required for this demographic of children.

Daniel has worked in a variety of different settings including special and mainstream schools, out-patient clinics, orthotic clinics, consultant lead clinics, gait analysis clinics and more. His broad spectrum of experience also includes orthopaedics (bones and muscles), sports injuries, dyspraxia/ Developmental Coordination Disorder, Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Down’s Syndrome and many more!

Working privately for several years now, he has built longstanding relationships with children, families, case managers and solicitors.

Daniel passionately promotes sport and physical recreation for children with disabilities. He has run gym clubs, football skills groups, swimming/ hydrotherapy and bike riding sessions all for children and young people with additional needs.

Daniel’s passion for sport comes from his 13 years as a rugby player; he has now hung up his boots in favour of the whistle. With the motivation to succeed in everything he does, Daniel is on the North of England Group of referees, placing him in the top 100 referees in the country!
